Visual Media and Communications Internship — Haiti Cultural Exchange (HCX)
Haiti Cultural Exchange (HCX) seeks a dynamic, motivated media maker to support video/photo and communications production and output of our arts and cultural programming. This is an excellent opportunity for graduate students or advanced undergraduates interested in cultural programming, non-profit management, and community engagement.
About HCX: HCX develops, presents, and promotes the cultural expressions of the Haitian people. Through public programming for music, visual arts, literature, dance, public forums, youth workshops, and film, we highlight Haitian and Haitian Diaspora voices while raising awareness of social issues and fostering cross-cultural understanding.
What You’ll Do:
As a Visual Media and Communications intern/volunteer, you will work directly with HCX’s program and communications team to:
- Photograph and/or film HCX events which are held primarily on evenings and weekends. Documentation includes capturing artists and visual artwork, music and dance performances, talks, fundraisers, classes, and festivals.
- Supporting our Communications and design projects with obtaining, identifying, organizing, and tracking incoming photos and videos from HCX event photographers
- Tracking usage of images and events on social media platforms
- Tracking viewer response to posts
- Assisting with creating slideshows with photos
- Version tracking and descriptive summaries of video content
- Tracking/matching photography contracts to images and videos
This is an in-person position located at HCX at 35 Lafayette Ave in Brooklyn, NY. Hourly commitment is 140 hours over 10 weeks. Exact dates to be coordinated with your supervisor, but will fall between Mid-January and May 2026. Scheduling may vary depending on event needs.
Who You Are:
- A media maker and/or graduate student, upper-level undergraduate or recent graduate with an interest in digital media, visual communications, and the arts
- Proficiency in photographing/filming indoor and outdoor live performances
- Capturing atmosphere and audience
- Portraits of key stakeholders
- Understanding of file size, type, editing, uploading and delivery of final assets.
- Ability to adhere to requirements for file size, type, filenames, and basic metadata.
- Familiarity with and access to media editing software (e.g. Adobe software, CyberLink, DaVinci)
- Proficiency in social media platform usage
- Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable with digital tools like G Suite and Canva.
- Passionate about HCX’s mission and excited to learn more about Haiti and the Haitian Diaspora.
