Our content and relationships in the communities we serve is as grass roots as it gets covering and working with local creators, businesses, professional sports teams, entertainment, law enforcement, community members, & political leaders.

Now entering its 8th semester, the Schneps Media Creative & Multimedia Intern Program has welcomed 122 student interns and continues to grow as a premier pipeline for aspiring journalists, creators, designers, and strategists. Interns are empowered to contribute to real assignments, from pitching and producing stories to covering live events and collaborating across departments. This program goes beyond classroom theory, offering the mentorship, access, and portfolio-building experience necessary to thrive in today’s fast-paced media landscape.


Job Description:
Schneps Media is seeking a Social Media Assistant Intern to join our team. The Social Media assistant intern will be an integral part of our social media strategy and assist in managing the social media accounts for a brand under the company's umbrella. This role will report to the Social Creative Director and work closely with other members of the team to create engaging content, monitor social media daily, and ensure consistent brand messaging across all social media platforms.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing and executing daily social media activity across platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, Facebook, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Work closely with editorial and creative teams to translate published articles into engaging social content, helping to tell our stories visually and effectively.
  • Help create, schedule, and post a mix of graphics, captions, reels, stories, and video content that aligns with the publication’s branding and voice.
  • Collaborate with staff daily to plan and organize posts that support ongoing coverage, breaking news, features, and campaigns.
  • Design social media graphics and visual assets using Canva and other tools to support both day-to-day posting and special initiatives.
  • Contribute to video shoots by assisting on set, capturing behind-the-scenes content, or editing short-form clips for social distribution.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and creative meetings, pitching content ideas, series concepts, and campaign strategies.
  • Monitor social media accounts by responding to messages, comments, DMs, and tagged content in a timely and professional manner.
  • Engage with our audience through liking, commenting, resharing, and interacting with stories and trending conversations.
  • Stay up-to-date with current social media trends, platform features, and viral formats, and recommend creative ways to implement them.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms (e.g.Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, etc.)
  • Detail-oriented and able to multitask effectively
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design principles and ability to create visually appealing social media posts using Canva or Photoshop
  • Basic knowledge of social media analytics tools and Insights
  • All regularly scheduled meetings will be conducted virtually. Any occasional opportunities for on-site visits and in-person meetings will be coordinated with interns' schedules.

  • Academic Credit:
    Interns are required to receive academic credit through their college or university in order to be eligible for the program. We work directly with students to ensure all school requirements are met, including any paperwork, evaluations, or hour tracking necessary for credit approval.
  • Flexible Locations:
    We offer both in-person and remote internship opportunities, depending on the nature of the role and the intern’s availability. Some positions may also be hybrid, combining remote work with occasional in-person assignments or events. Each internship posting will clearly indicate whether the role is in-person, remote, or hybrid to help students apply accordingly.
