Enterprise AI Analyst

JOB SUMMARY

This position offers an exciting opportunity to help shape the College’s use of artificial intelligence across enterprise systems, data platforms, and business processes. The Enterprise AI & Automation Analyst is a hands-on technical role responsible for evaluating, designing, building, testing, securing, and supporting AI-powered applications, agents, analytics, and automation solutions.

The position works with current AI development tools and the application and control layers surrounding large language models, sometimes referred to as an AI harness. Responsibilities include developing AI applications and retrieval-augmented generation solutions; directing and constraining model behavior; integrating AI with authorized data, systems, and tools; evaluating cloud-based and locally hosted models; and addressing AI limitations, security risks, and production-readiness requirements.

The analyst will also contribute to SPC’s Microsoft Fabric environment, local AI infrastructure, Power Platform solutions, and transition from PeopleSoft to Workday.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The ideal candidate is a curious, hands-on AI developer who can demonstrate experience with current AI development tools and explain what the tools do, why they were selected, how they manage interactions with large language models, and what risks or limitations they introduce.

The candidate should understand that prompts alone are not an adequate security boundary. Strong technical fundamentals, practical development experience, security awareness, sound judgment, and the demonstrated ability to learn emerging technologies are more important than experience with every platform used by SPC.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Designs, builds, tests, deploys, and maintains AI-powered applications, agents, services, analytics, and automation solutions.
  • Develops application and orchestration controls for model instructions, context, retrieval, structured outputs, tool access, validation, error handling, and human approval.
  • Researches, evaluates, and demonstrates current AI development tools, models, orchestration frameworks, vector technologies, and evaluation methods.
  • Develops retrieval-augmented generation solutions that securely connect models with authorized institutional data, documents, and knowledge sources.
  • Develops Python applications, APIs, services, and data pipelines that integrate AI with enterprise systems and workflows.
  • Evaluates cloud-hosted and locally deployed models based on accuracy, privacy, security, performance, scalability, cost, and institutional suitability.
  • Participates in developing and supporting secure, College-controlled AI infrastructure using local or open-weight models.
  • Identifies and mitigates risks such as hallucinations, prompt injection, sensitive-data exposure, unauthorized retrieval, excessive permissions, insecure tool use, and unreliable outputs.
  • Applies authentication, authorization, least privilege, secrets management, validation, logging, monitoring, testing, and audit controls.
  • Contributes to Microsoft Fabric Data Agents, semantic models, ontology development, conversational analytics, and governed access to institutional data.
  • Supports AI, automation, and data initiatives associated with SPC’s transition from PeopleSoft to Workday.
  • Develops integrations and workflows using APIs, databases, SharePoint, Power Automate, Power BI, and other approved platforms.
  • Collaborates with technical teams, data owners, and business stakeholders to identify appropriate use cases and ensure security, governance, accessibility, and production readiness.
  • Demonstrates AI capabilities, explains limitations and risks, and provides documentation, training, and technical guidance.
  • Determines when conventional automation, reporting, search, or process improvement is more appropriate than generative AI.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience developing AI applications, agents, LLM orchestration layers, or retrieval-augmented generation solutions.
  • Experience with AI development frameworks, cloud or local model platforms, embeddings, semantic search, or vector databases.
  • Experience developing Python-based APIs, services, integrations, or data pipelines.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Power BI, SharePoint, Power Automate, containers, or related enterprise technologies.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Workday, another ERP platform, or regulated institutional data.
  • Experience evaluating AI systems or demonstrating technical solutions to nontechnical audiences.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data science, software engineering, or a related field; four (4) years of related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Hands-on experience building or substantially contributing to an AI-powered application, agent, retrieval system, automation solution, or comparable software project is required. Proficiency with Python, working knowledge of SQL, and experience with APIs or other system-integration methods are also required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Large language models, AI agents, orchestration controls, prompt and context engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and semantic search;
  • Current AI development tools, model platforms, evaluation methods, limitations, and failure modes;
  • AI security, including prompt injection, data exposure, unauthorized access, excessive permissions, secrets management, and audit controls;
  • Software development, API integration, relational data, and enterprise data-platform concepts; and
  • Data privacy, governance, accessibility, security, and FERPA requirements.

Skills in:

  • Python programming, SQL querying, API integration, testing, and troubleshooting;
  • Developing and evaluating AI-powered applications and automation;
  • Applying security, access, validation, monitoring, and logging controls;
  • Documenting technical solutions; and
  • Communicating technical concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences.

Ability to:

  • Demonstrate AI development tools and explain their purpose, limitations, risks, and security implications;
  • Translate institutional needs into appropriate AI, automation, analytics, or conventional solutions;
  • Constrain model access to authorized information, systems, tools, and actions;
  • Diagnose failures across data, retrieval, model, prompt, integration, and application layers;
  • Learn unfamiliar technologies through research, experimentation, and testing; and
  • Balance innovation with privacy, security, compliance, cost, reliability, and maintainability.
