R1076 Underwriting Trainee - Dallas, TX

We are seeking an Underwriter Trainee.

The Sompo International Trainee Program is an 18 - 24 month training program designed to give participants the business and technical skills they need to build a successful career in insurance either in Underwriting, Claims, Risk Control, Actuary, or Catastrophe Modeling. Trainees work alongside the most experienced underwriters in the industry to gain in-depth knowledge of our business units and underwriting philosophy. Through on-the-job learning, workplace mentoring and directed self-study, this program prepares trainees to earn underwriting authority at Sompo International.
 
Trainee participants work directly on their product accounts, building relationships with agents and brokers and identifying customers’ needs.  This rigorous curriculum also includes training in sales and marketing, negotiation and risk analysis.
 
Sompo International’s Trainee Program is a foundation for career advancement at Sompo International and can lead to managing a business territory or overseeing staff or processes within a product line.
 
What can I expect as a Trainee?
 
ON-THE-JOB LEARNING
Insurance requires a high degree of experience and expertise – something you can’t learn in the classroom. Sompo International trainees are immersed in the day-to-day activities of their team. They are given a rare opportunity to work alongside experts in the field to review submissions, analyze risks and expand their overall knowledge.
 
DIRECTED SELF-STUDY
Professional designation courses give new underwriters technical knowledge of insurance operations and industry practices. Sompo International supports employees pursuing continuing educations opportunities by covering the cost for fees and textbooks, offering time off work to take exams and providing additional compensation for successful completion of many courses.
 
 CAREER DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Salary Range: $65,000-$70,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
