Latinas On the Verge of Excellence - Volunteer Mentor Opportunity

Did you ever wish you had a mentor who provided you with additional guidance when you were in middle school or high school? Latinas On the Verge of Excellence (L.O.V.E.) Mentoring is now recruiting female-identifying university students and recent alumni to serve as volunteer mentors during our programs in the 2023-2024 academic year to help young female students to thrive! 

The L.O.V.E. Mentoring Program supports and empowers young women to strive for success, both in school and in life, through mentorship and health interventions targeted at mental, reproductive, and physical health as well as college access and career readiness.

Our volunteer mentors enjoy the following benefits:

  • Take the lead in supporting a young woman through an ongoing relationship
  • Serve as a positive role model
  • Mentor Training ToolKit, to prepare you in the topics of mental health and socio-emotional learning, as well as class management.
  • Opportunity to work with young women of diverse backgrounds in a classroom setting while developing leadership and communication skills, and other transferable skills.
  • Opportunity to network and build professional relationships with our team leaders and our partners at networking events, discussion panels, and team gatherings.
  • Professional development opportunities exclusively for mentors, like access to internship opportunities with our team and our partners.
  • College credit offered with the permission of the successful candidate’s college or university. 
  • Certificate of completion and other recognitions and acknowledgements for their service

Qualifications:

  • Have a 3.0 GPA minimum
  • Be currently enrolled in a higher education institution as an undergraduate or graduate student, OR be a recent graduate.
  • Be interested in working with young people, specifically female youth of diverse backgrounds
  • Be available to mentor at least at one partner school, for one hour, once a week, from September 2023 to June 2024.
  • Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures
  • Be willing to complete the application process
  • Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitment
  • Attend required in-person and/or virtual mentor training sessions as prescribed
  • Be willing to communicate regularly with program staff, submit activity information, and take constructive feedback regarding mentoring performance
  • Be willing to complete a background check
