Research Professional: Economics
We are looking for highly skilled and motivated individuals to work as full-time research assistants for a period of at least one year. Our preferred start date is June 15, 2025 although earlier or later start dates may be feasible. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. The first review is October 1, 2024, and we will continue to review applications received after this date until all positions are filled.
The job will entail close collaboration on a number of new and ongoing economics research projects across a wide range of fields. Research topics include public economics, inequality, development, labor economics, finance, macroeconomics, fiscal and monetary policy, behavioral economics, household finance, market design, financial intermediation, trade, urban economics, education, international economics, industrial organization, entrepreneurship, and housing. Candidates will be matched to work with one or two of the professors listed in the header as well as their collaborators in different departments. The matching between Research Professionals and Professors will be determined in part based on mutual interests. Previous holders of this position at Chicago Booth have gone on to Ph.D. programs at Harvard, MIT, Princeton, and the University of Chicago.
If interested, please fill out our online survey (https://forms.gle/ZWKoLjn5fHKU3dy57) and this formal application (https://uchicago.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/External/job/Research-Professional_JR27632). You must submit the online survey to be considered for this position, but if you have already submitted a formal application on Workday, you do not need to submit another.
The ideal candidate will have (i) a strong quantitative background, (ii) strong computer skills including programming, (iii) the ability to work independently to solve problems, and (iv) a long-term interest in pursuing research in economics. Background in economics is a plus, but not necessary—we welcome candidates with a range of backgrounds who are looking for more exposure to economics. For a subset of the positions, a background in economic theory is also a plus. We pay a competitive salary and provide standard benefits such as health insurance.
