Recreation Associate

Position Overview:

  • Title: Recreation Associate
  • Department: Childcare
  • Reports to: Recreation Coordinator
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 
  • Position Summary: The Recreation Associate will assist the Recreation Coordinator in planning and organizing recreational and educational activities for children and families, ensuring activities reflect the racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity of the community served.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and participate in social activities for children and families.
  • Build relationships with community organizations offering free or low-cost recreational programs for homeless families.
  • Assist in organizing holiday events that reflect the cultural backgrounds of families served.
  • Supervise children during field trips and outside activities.
  • Monitor and maintain recreation equipment.
  • Participate in staff meetings and case conferences.
  • Track and document client activities, and provide feedback to the Recreation Coordinator.
  • Participate in the shelter's multi-disciplinary team.
  • Work evenings, weekends, holidays, and school closures as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to navigate stairs in the assigned building.
  • Escort children on public transportation during field trips.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years providing educational/recreational activities for at-risk or homeless children.
  • Certifications: CPR/First Aid eligibility.
  • Skills: Strong communication, organization, and ability to interact supportively with children and parents.
  • Additional: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
