Digital Communications and Marketing Intern

June - July 2022 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

My boss was flexible to my working schedule. Because I had an obligation that required my presence in Athens once a month, he allowed me to work remote. Additionally, he gave me several opportunities to network within the company.

What I wish was different

I wish I was given more work. I had free time which was nice to a certain extent, however, I think more hands-on tasks would've been beneficial.

Advice

Network as much as you can during your internship and say yes to every opportunity. I saw several new projects in person that the company is working on simply because I said yes when someone offered the experience.

Meet lots of people you work for, ask for opportunities and don't say no!

Gas Operations Intern

June - August 2020 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

Dominion was super flexible and allowed for an online internship for the summer. They also reimbursed me for any housing costs I incurred prior to them setting an online internship. My manager was awesome and we had almost daily conversations about my project progress. I was able to reach out to different people in the company to talk about different aspects of the company.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wanted to do this summer that I wasn't able to be to travel to Ohio to meet my coworkers and go into the field.

Advice

Don't be afraid to take on work. The experience is what you make it. You can spend all summer learning about one thing or multiple things. Just communicate with your manager and the people around you to figure out something that you really like to do.

Engineering intern

May 2020 • Rock Springs, WY

What I liked

Dominion Energy is an excellent company with great benefits and company culture. I had the opportunity to work on challenging projects where I was directly integrated into their operations team. Pay was outstanding, and the majority of interns that were seniors received full time offers. Highly recommend.

What I wish was different

Being that this was a virtual internship, there were many technical issues and minor inconveniences along the way. I also understand the companies need to social distance and protect their employees.

Advice

Network with as many people as you can. Dominion has departments all over the US and the opportunities are truly endless.

What I wish was different

This was an online internship, and it was awesome, but I wish I could have been on-site to be able to interact with more people and gain different insights.

Advice

Stay curious and always open to learning new things. If there is something you don't know, ask. There will be people willing to help you understand.
